Easter weekend fun; Your virtual and “social distance” guide

WAYS OF HAMPTON, VA (WAVY) – Since Easter is one of the first holidays of social distance because of coronaviruses, you may be looking for creative ways to spend your days while still having that Easter feeling.

Here’s a guide to help you navigate all your meals on the weekends, from Hampton Roads dishes, homemade goodies baskets, virtual church services, and even Easter Bunny Visits!

Easter bunny visits

The Easter Bunny will visit various The Virginia Beach neighborhoods on Saturday, April 11 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. She plans to make some special stops where she will get off the Easter swim and dance around your front yard, leaving a special Easter treat if your basket is at the end of your driveway.

Stockpot Norfolk plans to trim Easter dishes. Pickup will be available on Saturday or Sunday. The menu is on the way and you can find it in the restaurant Facebook Page once published.

Grace O’Malley’s there are several special Easter menu items in Norfolk, including Celtic eggs: two hard-boiled eggs, wrapped in Irish glitter, panko incutated and deep-fried golden brown, served with diatonic mustard and roasted pork flakes with mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes, baby peas and peas Guinness, served with puff pastry. In Norfolk, the city will host a photo hunt which will run from Saturday, April 11 at 8 a.m. to Sunday, April 12 at 8 p.m. Each family gets an hour to collect as many items as they can find on the list and take photos for social media posts using #stayhomeandplay and tagging @NorfolkRPOS. The list can be found at Facebook Page and there may be a reward at the end of the hunt!

Easter services

Good Shepherd Church in Smithfield it will be transmitted by Sunday Mass via protocol Facebook Page, Join Fr. Tony and the Good Shepherd Parish at Mass at 9 a.m. Sunday, April 12.

Local Easter basket treats

Princi books is on Main Street in Norfolk Easter greetings, puzzles, workbooks and games into which the baskets are filled. The bookstore is still open to the public while maintaining appropriate social distance practices until 5pm. daily and will be closed for Easter.

More Easter fun

classical music weekend it will be broadcast via the WHRO classic station at 90.3FM.

• Good Friday, April 10 at 9:00 pm: 2019 concert recording of Mahler’s powerful symphony no. 2 (Resurrection) conducted by JoAnn Falletta of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, along with members of the F. Ludwig Diehn Chorale Concert Choir and ODU, with soloists Mary Wilson (soprano) and Susan Platts (mezzo soprano).
• Easter Sunday, April 12 at 4pm: Handel is the Messiah Recorded in December 2019, this performance features soloist Maria Valdes, soprano; Allegra De Vita, mezzo-soprano; Carlos Enrique Santelli, tenor; and Calvin Griffin, bass baritone. Stephen Mulligan conducts the Virginia Symphony Orchestra and Choir.

Out on the drive? Swing past the Hampton Boulevard mascot Scotch & Soda lions see their Easter outfits! They are located at the intersection of Hampton and Spotswood.

In addition to shovel hunting, Norfolk Recreation, Parks and Open Space will also host the week chalk artistic challenge runs Monday, April 13 through Friday, April 17 at 11:30 pm. This is an opportunity to go out and draw whatever you want! These can be Easter eggs, chopsticks, animals or even random blacks.

Outside Hampton Roads

On Easter Sunday, April 12 at 1 p.m. (EST), an Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli will perform a solo live performance from the historic Duomo, Milan Cathedral in Italy. This performance can be viewed via Bocelli’s YouTube Channel, If you visit the channel ahead of time, you can sign up to be reminded before it starts.

Knotts Island Fire Department and the North Carolina EMS team will be driving an Easter bunny around town in one of its fire trucks on Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon. The plan is to head to Sandy Point and East Point Estates and head to the North End. The drive permits weather conditions and route and information can be found online.
