SAAC launches the Art Partners grant | Culture & Leisure
The Starkville Area Arts Council (SAAC) is delighted to launch its SAAC scholarship, funded in part by a 2-year grant from the Windgate Foundation. SAAC is seeking 1-2 artists for this inaugural scholarship, which is designed to expand SAAC’s artistic education efforts while developing professional skills and resources to help artists continue to work as artists. This scholarship is an extension of existing SAAC Teaching Artists who are part of the Artistic Partners Initiative, where SAAC provides a free Teaching Artist and supplies supplies to 3-4 existing extracurricular sites. At least 2 of these sites focus on young people from vulnerable communities and this initiative reaches over 100 young people each year.
The main function of the scholarship is to work with after-school / outreach programs to define and teach an arts education program. In addition, the exchange will be responsible for the co-management of the SAAC series of exhibitions. Fellows must be self-reliant and have the ability to work collaboratively without extensive supervision. A full description of the scholarship is available on the SAAC website.
