Data from the Ministry of Manpower referring to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) indicates that the number of unemployed people in Indonesia reached 7.28 million people in February 2025. Ironically, 1.01 million of them were university graduates.

Lestari, who is also vice president of MPR RI, believes that the BPS data reflects the existence of a gap between the skills of university graduates and those that the industry currently needs.

Rerie, as Lestari is known, emphasized that collaboration between campuses, government and business to tailor the curriculum to market needs truly needs to be achieved.
