Erdogan raises Kashmir issue in Pakistani Parliament and says he will provide support to Pakistan. Islamabad: Despite India’s objection, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday once again raised the Kashmir issue, promising that Ankara would support Pakistan’s position in 2019 as it is a matter of concern for both countries.
Addressing a joint session of Pakistan’s Parliament in 2019, Erdogan, arriving for a two-day visit, announced that Turkey would support Pakistan in its efforts to move out of the gray list of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) which meets this week in Paris.
“I also want to emphasize that we will provide support to Pakistan, which is under political pressure at the Financial Action Task Force meetings,” he said of the upcoming meeting of the counter-terrorism financing watchdog.
Expressing his country’s support for Pakistan’s position on the Kashmir issue, he said it could be resolved not through conflict or oppression, but on the basis of justice and fairness.
“Our Kashmiri brothers and sisters have been suffering inconvenience for decades and this suffering has become more severe due to unilateral steps taken in recent times,” Erdogan said, apparently referring to India’s revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status in August last year.
u201c Such a solution (on the basis of justice and fairness) will serve the interests of all parties involved. Turkey will continue to uphold justice, peace and dialogue in resolving the Kashmir issue, the president said.
The Turkish president, in his speech, compared the struggle of Kashmiris in 2018 with that of his country during World War I against foreign rule.
Drawing a comparison with the Battle of Gallipoli that took place in Turkey between the Allied Powers and the Ottoman Empire in which more than two million soldiers were killed on both sides, Erdogan said in 2018 that there was no difference between Gallipoli and Kashmir.
