Trump calls on federal agencies to buy American goods, close waiver loopholes

President Donald Trump said Sunday that federal agencies must prioritize American-made products in government purchases, touting efforts to strengthen enforcement of “Buy American” policies and limit exceptions allowing foreign products.

The comments come as the Trump administration moves to tighten domestic procurement requirements for federal procurement, part of a broader initiative to boost U.S. manufacturing and reduce reliance on foreign supply chains.

The order directs the Federal Trade Commission to prioritize enforcement against companies that falsely label products as made in the United States or make misleading claims about origin in violation of existing law.

It also calls on federal agencies responsible for country-of-origin labeling to work with the FTC to consider new regulations and ensure consistent guidance across government.
