Qatar, Turkey support Pakistan’s mediation efforts to help resolve US-Iran crisis
Regarding bilateral relations, Sheikh Mohammed described Qatar-Türkiye relations as a “strong partnership” that has grown significantly in recent years under the leadership of both countries.
He said cooperation between Doha and Ankara now extends to the political, economic, energy and military sectors, reflecting the strategic depth of the relationship.
For his part, Hakan Fidan said he conveyed greetings from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani during previous talks in Doha focused on the latest regional developments.
Fidan stressed that current circumstances require greater coordination and solidarity among countries in the region, reaffirming Turkey’s full support for Pakistani mediation efforts and Ankara’s willingness to help prevent further escalation.
Qatar and Turkey have strongly rejected any attempt to use the Strait of Hormuz as a negotiating tool or pressure mechanism, emphasizing that this strategic waterway is an international maritime route whose freedom of navigation must be protected.
Sheikh Mohammed reiterated Qatar’s support for Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts aimed at reaching a political settlement, reopening the Strait of Hormuz and resolving issues related to Iran’s nuclear program through dialogue.
He warned that a return to war would only bring more destruction and instability, stressing the importance of supporting all efforts to prevent further tensions and safeguard maritime security in the Gulf.
The Prime Minister also revealed that his recent visit to the United States focused heavily on supporting Pakistan’s diplomatic initiatives and encouraging all parties to engage constructively towards a speedy resolution of the crisis.
He said prolonging the war would not serve the interests of any party and praised Pakistan’s “important and significant role” in facilitating agreements aimed at reaching an agreement.
Sheikh Mohammed added that Qatar’s consultations are being carried out in full coordination with Pakistan’s mediation efforts, especially as the Gulf countries remain among the states most directly affected by the consequences of the conflict.
Fidan also stressed the need to intensify diplomatic efforts to quickly end the crisis, emphasizing that Turkey does not support the continuation of the war.
He described Pakistan’s mediation role as “important and decisive” both for the region and the international community as a whole, particularly given the conflict’s implications for energy security and global freedom of navigation.
The Turkish Foreign Minister also highlighted the ongoing Qatari-Turkish coordination to support mediation efforts and achieve a ceasefire as soon as possible, noting that consultations between Doha and Ankara continue on several regional files and institutional levels.
He reiterated Turkey’s refusal to use the Strait of Hormuz as a pressure tool against Gulf countries, warning that any future threats to freedom of navigation should elicit a firm international response.
Addressing broader regional developments, Fidan said Israel continues to pursue policies based on “violence and expansion,” warning that such actions have moved from a regional concern to an issue affecting global security.
He also highlighted growing international criticism of Israeli policies, including sanctions and measures adopted by some European countries, predicting that international public opinion would adopt increasingly harsh stances towards Israeli actions in the coming period.
