Rep. Jake Auchincloss, D-Mass., today pushed back against criticism of his suggestion that Maine Democrats would not vote for their party’s presumptive Senate nominee, Graham Platner.

Auchincloss drew criticism that his comments in an interview yesterday on CNN’s “The Arena” could help Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, with some critics suggesting he should face a primary challenger.

Auchincloss said in the interview that Platner’s chest tattoo, a skull and crossbones that resembles a Nazi symbol, and the Senate candidate’s comments about it are “personally disqualifying.” Platner covered up the tattoo last year after launching his campaign, saying he was unaware of the similarity to the Nazi Totenkopf symbol and adding that he was a “lifelong opponent” of Nazism.
