Trump makes third trip to Walter Reed hospital in second term
Donald Trump went to the hospital again on Tuesday, for yet another “routine” medical evaluation, according to the White House. Trump spent the morning at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, where he received his “annual dental and medical evaluation.”
Most don’t know it, but the White House Medical Center has its own dentist on staff, who has provided routine dental care to former presidents and staffers. The rationale for Trump’s visit to Walter Reed further seemed flimsy given that the president had a dental appointment with his personal physician in Florida earlier this month and had repeated medical appointments throughout his second term.
Regardless, everything went well, according to Trump. “I just completed my 6 month physical at Walter Reed Military Medical Center,” the president wrote. “Everything went perfectly. Thank you to the wonderful doctors and staff! Back to the White House. President DJT.”
Trump visited Walter Reed three times in just over a year. He will celebrate his 80th birthday next month with a UFC event in front of the White House, and questions about the health of the oldest inaugurated president in American history are becoming hard to ignore.
Over the weekend, Trump appeared at a Memorial Day celebration with a glob of poorly mixed foundation on his hand that has become about as ubiquitous as his American flag pin. The makeup is used to cover the bruises on the back of his hand, for which the White House has given conflicting explanations, including claims that the injury was caused by too-frequent handshakes, a large dose of “big aspirin” and that Trump banged that specific spot on the tables.
In addition to repeated medical exams and mysterious bruises, the aging president also appears to doze off during meetings and public appearances. At the Memorial Day event at Arlington Cemetery, Trump appeared to take a nap while Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth spoke to the gathered crowd. The president also appears to have slept through Cabinet meetings, document signings and numerous public events and Oval Office meetings.

Trump, who long criticized his predecessor as an old man incapable of handling the duties of his office, is now confronting his own rapid aging while insisting that everything is fine. Last week, Trump once again boasted that his cognitive assessments were excellent. “They had some tough questions. You have a bear, a snake, an elephant and a horse — name the horse,” Trump recounted as part of an oft-performed piece intended to demonstrate his mental acuity.
In a statement to PBS News this week, the White House reaffirmed that “President Trump is the sharpest and most accessible president in American history, who works tirelessly to solve problems and keep his promises, and he remains in excellent health.”
Trump and the White House have a history of making superlative statements about the president’s health, both during his first administration and since he took office. In April 2025, the administration released a health report touting Trump’s “frequent victories in golf events” and deeming him in exceptional health, except for some scarring around his ear that was grazed by a bullet during the 2024 campaign.
A few months later, in July, the White House revealed, amid questions about visible and persistent swelling in Trump’s legs, that he had been diagnosed with “chronic venous insufficiency,” a common condition among older people. In the fall, after rumors that he was seriously ill or even dead circulated on social media over Labor Day weekend, Trump wrote on Truth Social that he was alive and had “NEVER FELT BETTER.” Trending Stories
The president visited Walter Reed again in October, boasting that he had passed another IQ test, when the test he was actually given was an assessment typically used to screen for dementia. He later revealed he had undergone a CT scan – after previously describing the procedure as an MRI.
The White House and Trump may insist he’s in great shape as he returns to the hospital — but Americans have eyes, and clearly all is not well for the president.
