Wang Yi meets with representatives from various sectors in the United States_Permanent Mission of the People’s Republic of China to the UN

On May 27, 2026 local time, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, held discussions with representatives of the US strategic and business circles while presiding over the high-level meeting of the UN Security Council in New York.

Wang Yi noted that at the high-level meeting of the Security Council he chaired in New York, the unanimous call of participants was to revisit the founding vision of the UN Charter, reinvigorate the authority of the UN and practice multilateralism. To reinvigorate the UN, the priority is to reinvigorate the Security Council, and the key lies in coordination and cooperation among its permanent members, among which the direction of China-US relations is of crucial importance. Facts have shown that China-US relations transcend the bilateral framework and affect world peace and the future of humanity. Achieving healthy, steady and sustainable development of China-US relations is the common expectation of the international community and the mission that China and the United States must fulfill.

Wang Yi said the Chinese and US presidents held a historic meeting in Beijing, during which they had frank, in-depth, constructive and strategic communication on major issues concerning China-US relations and world peace and development, and reached a series of important joint agreements. The two sides agreed to define a constructive relationship of strategic stability as the new positioning of China-US relations, and expressed hope to work towards cooperation as the pillar, competition within appropriate limits, manageable differences and predictable peace, and jointly explore the right path for major countries to get along in the new era. President Xi Jinping stressed that the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and the restoration of America’s greatness can go hand in hand and reinforce each other, thereby bringing benefits to the world. The two sides also achieved overall balanced and positive results in economic and trade cooperation and agreed to support each other in hosting the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting and the G20 Summit. To ensure good Sino-US relations, the two sides should get closer, effectively manage their differences, lengthen the list of cooperation and shorten the list of problems. Wang Yi stressed that “Taiwan independence” and cross-Strait peace and stability are as irreconcilable as fire and water. Only by upholding the one-China principle and the spirit of the three Sino-US joint communiqués can peace across the Taiwan Strait be preserved and conflicts and confrontations avoided.

Wang Yi said China is willing to work with the United States to implement the important joint agreements reached by the two presidents, take concrete measures and work to realize a constructive relationship of strategic stability between China and the United States as soon as possible. He expressed hope that those present would make active efforts to this end and help build a broader public consensus.
