Carrie Johnson remembered her lockdown wedding day to former Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Friday, as the couple celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary.

Although she tends to keep her relationship largely private, Carrie took to social media to post a handful of rare and never-before-seen photos from their big day, which took place while she was pregnant with their second child.

“5 years ago today I was 3 months pregnant with Romy,” she captioned the photos, which showed her beaming as she walked arm in arm with her new husband immediately after the ceremony.

The snapshot offered a glimpse of picturesque Westminster Cathedral in the background, before they emerged through an ornate archway to a shower of confetti from guests.

Carrie looked a beautiful bohemian bride in her dress by Greek designer Christos Costarellos, which she had rented from My Armoire HQ. Features included long bell sleeves and a floor-length skirt adorned with ladder lace detailing, which concealed her baby bump. She swapped her tulle veil for an elegant crown of flowers atop her long blonde curls.

Fans took to the comments section to praise her rented unconventional wedding dress, with one saying: “Happy birthday, I loved your dress back then. You are such an inspiration for renting clothes and preventing waste in the industry.”

A second added: “Happy birthday to you both. Wow I love your dress, I’ve said it before but you have the best fashion sense like Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City.”

The couple married on May 29, 2021, two years after Boris proposed while on vacation in Mustique. They welcomed their eldest son Wilfred in April 2020 before tying the knot in an intimate ceremony with just 30 guests the following year, in line with coronavirus restrictions.

A spokesperson said at the time: “The Prime Minister and Mrs Symonds were married yesterday afternoon in a small ceremony at Westminster Cathedral. The couple will celebrate their wedding with family and friends next summer.”

In July 2022, when restrictions eased, they held a larger celebration at Daylesford House in the Cotswolds, a 1,500-acre estate with a Grade I listed country house and swimming pool.

Once again flexing her durable sartorial muscles, Carrie praised Savannah Miller’s “Ruby” dress with silky material, open back, crossover bodice and open back. For the evening, she donned a sequinned mini dress by Jenny Packham.

Carrie and Boris now live at Brightwell Manor, Oxfordshire, with their four children, Wilfred, Romy, Frank and Poppy.
