Trump says Iran deal near; Iranian official accuses him of “diplomatic betrayal” – Pajhwok Afghan News
KABUL (Pajhwok): The US president said much of a possible deal between Washington and Tehran has already been negotiated and all that remains is to finalize it. However, an Iranian official said that “the US president is betraying diplomacy for the third time.”
According to Fars News Agency, Trump wrote in an article on Truth Social that he had spoken with several regional leaders and international officials about Iran and what he called a “peace memorandum of understanding.”
According to him, the talks took place with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Qatar Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, King Abdullah II of Jordan, King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain and several other regional officials.
Trump said an agreement between the United States, Iran and the countries concerned had been “extensively negotiated” and now only needed to be finalized.
He also said he had a separate conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The US president added that the details and final parts of the agreement are still under review and will be announced soon.
He also asserted that if the agreement was finalized, the Strait of Hormuz would remain open.
Separately, the American website Axios, citing informed sources, reported that the leaders who participated in the phone calls with Trump supported continuing efforts to reach an agreement.
According to the report, negotiations are progressing well and mediators hope that a first agreement in the form of a short document will soon be finalized and announced.
However, Mohsen Rezaei, a member of the Iranian Discernment Council and advisor to the Iranian leader, wrote today on his X account: “As expected, the US President is betraying diplomacy for the third time. By continuing the naval blockade and excessively demanding in the negotiations, he has proven once again that he is not interested in negotiations and is pursuing other goals.”
