‘One day you will see me running on TV’: Gurindervir tells his childhood story to PM Modi on Mann Ki Baat
Indian sprint sensation Gurindervir Singh shared a heartwarming childhood memory during his interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the latest episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’, eliciting hearty laughs from the Prime Minister and inspiring listeners across the country.
Recalling an incident from his childhood, Gurindervir said that whenever he was engrossed in television, his mother would switch it off and ask him to concentrate on his studies. Determined to pursue his dreams, he confidently told her, “Ab aap mujhe TV dekhne nahee dete, ek din aap mujhe TV pe dhundoge ki Gurindervir daud raha hai” (One day you will look for me on TV and see Gurindervir running).
Looking back on that moment, the national record holder said he now feels immense pride every time he sees happiness in his mother’s eyes. This touching anecdote made Prime Minister Modi laugh and remark that it was a fascinating story.
During the interaction, Prime Minister Modi congratulated Gurindervir Singh and fellow sprinter Animesh Kujur for their outstanding performance in the 100 meter race. He also congratulated Gurindervir for setting a new national record in the event, describing it as a proud achievement for Indian athletics.
Gurindervir also spoke about the early inspirations behind his sporting journey. He revealed that when he was a child, he was fascinated by the medals and trophies won by his volleyball player father. He often cleaned them and eagerly asked his father how he had earned such accolades.
