Roy Suryo and Dr. Tifa arrested, legal advisor requests suspension of detention

JAKARTA, KOMPAS — Polda Metro Jaya arrested Roy Suryo and Tifauzia Tyassuma or Dr. Tifa regarding the controversy over the diploma of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo. The lawyer considered this arrest strange, as they had both been considered cooperative in responding to the investigator’s summons. The legal team also plans to request a suspension of detention.

Roy Suryo’s lawyer, Ahmad Khozinudin, said his client was arrested around 07:00 WIB by investigators from Polda Metro Jaya. He got this information from Roy Suryo’s wife. “At the same time, we also received information that Dr. Tifa was also arrested,” he said in a press release, Friday (19/6/2026).

Ahmad regretted the actions of investigators who made forced efforts to arrest Roy Suryo. “In fact, our client has been cooperative in responding to investigators’ summons and is still executing his mandatory report,” he said.

According to Ahmad, if the arrest is carried out under Phase II of implementation after the case is declared complete, investigators should be able to resort to a summons mechanism and not forced efforts in the form of an arrest.

Ahmad sees this arrest as an indication that the judicial process is no longer taking place solely on the basis of law enforcement standards and ethics, but has been influenced by political interests.

“This arrest actually confirms the existence of political forces that intervene in the law, so that civilized methods of law enforcement through summons are abandoned and turn to repressive and intimidating methods through arrests,” he stressed.

Ahmad also called on the public to continue to support and pray for Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa. The legal team plans to travel to Polda Metro Jaya to submit a letter of guarantee as part of preparations for filing an application for suspension of detention if necessary.

Until this news was published, Polda Metro Jaya had not confirmed the information about the arrest.

Previously, Director of General Criminal Investigation of Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, said that the files of Roy Suryo and Tifauzia Tyassuma regarding the alleged fake diploma of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, had been declared complete by the DKI Jakarta Attorney General’s Office.

“The prosecutor said that the files we sent to the High Prosecutor’s Office (DKI Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office) are complete. We have also filled in the previously requested gaps,” Iman told reporters, Tuesday (2/6/2026).

Head of Polda Metro Jaya, Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri, explained that in general, the eight suspects were charged under Article 27A and Article 28 of the Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE) Law as well as Article 310 and/or Article 311 of the Criminal Code with a maximum prison term of six years.

In this case, the suspects were divided into two groups. The first group was charged under Article 160 of the Penal Code for alleged incitement to commit violence against general authorities. The people included in this cluster are Eggi Sudjana, Kurnia Tri Royani, Rizal Fadillah, Rustam Effendi and Damai Hari Lubis.

Meanwhile, Roy Suryo, Rismon Sianipar and Tifauzia Tyassuma are included in the second cluster. They were charged under Article 32 paragraph (1) and Article 35 of the ITE Law regarding allegations of deletion, concealment or manipulation of electronic documents.

As the case progressed, the status of suspects Eggi Sudjana and Damai Hari Lubis was later revoked after investigators issued a stop investigation order (SP3). Both cases were resolved through restorative justice mechanisms (restorative justice).

After that, Rismon Sianipar also took similar measures. He admitted to having made a mistake in conducting research into Joko Widodo’s diploma.

With this development, the case that ensnared Roy Suryo and Tifauzia Tyassuma is part of a series of cases still ongoing regarding the controversy over the diploma of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo.
