Roy Suryo’s legal team alleges Jokowi wants to avoid trial in diploma case, Secretary-General Projo immediately denies
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV – Roy Suryo’s legal team Ahmad Khozinudin suspects that the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) wants to avoid a trial in the case of allegations of fake diplomas.
This was conveyed after observing the proceedings of the indictment trial of Tifauzia Tyassuma or Doctor Tifa held at the East Jakarta District Court (PN), Thursday (2/7/2026).
According to him, the prosecutor’s indictment indicated an attempt to avoid Jokowi appearing at trial.
“In the 13 chronological points of the primary indictment that were later adopted in the branch, there is not a single chronology that indicates that brother Joko Widodo reported this criminal act to the Metro Jaya Police, but what is always put forward is Muhammad Syarif (Jokowi’s assistant),” he said in the dialogue. His party believes that what happened was a way for Jokowi to avoid a trial.
Roy Suryo’s legal team suspects that the party who will attend the trial will be Commissioner Syarif, while Jokowi himself will dump his body.
“Later, it may be that only Kompol Syarif’s lawyer and witness will be present,” he said.
However, in the same dialogue, Projo Secretary General Freddy Damanik rejected the accusations of Roy Suryo’s legal team.
“Mr. Jokowi, as a victim and a journalist, will definitely be present,” he said.
He emphasized that Kompol Syarif, in the case of Jokowi’s allegations of fake diplomas, would only act as a witness in the trial.
Freddy also pointed out that the capabilities of Jokowi and Kompol Syarif were different in the case of the fake diploma allegations that ensnared doctors Tifa and Roy Suryo.

According to him, the indictment prepared by the prosecutor during the trial of Doctor Tifa was also a strategy of the public prosecutor’s office.
“This does not mean that it eliminates Pak Jokowi’s role as a journalist or a victim. It just shows that the process of the incident was that he initially obtained the information from Kompol Syarif,” he said.
He believes that the absence of the journalist or the victim at the trial could actually be detrimental to the victim herself.
By failing to appear in court, the journalist or victim waives their right to explain the losses they have suffered.
