While Trump’s speech may be more historical than the norm, it touches on many of the same talking points that he discusses at length at many of his rallies across the United States.

This included Trump’s promise to pass the SAVE America Act – which would require proof of citizenship and identity to vote and ban mail-in voting except in cases of illness, military deployment or other exceptional circumstances.

It took on renewed importance for the White House following this week’s Supreme Court ruling that protected mail-in ballots — a notable defeat for the Trump administration in the face of a conservative-leaning Supreme Court.

The specter of “communism” was raised several times in his speech, with the president comparing it to a cancer that must be excised.

Trump’s critics will likely accuse him of confusing America’s Cold War enemies with his domestic opponents, rather than unifying the country.
