Bill Clinton Rips Trump in July 4 Post on MAGA Excesses

Donald Trump may “love Bill Clinton a lot”, but the 42nd President of the United States has shown his deep dislike for this Independence Day where the 45th/47th POTUS takes the world and the nation on America’s 250th birthday.

“Today we celebrate this important milestone in another period of deep division, renewed questions about America’s future and role in the world, and serious threats to our own institutions and to our democracy itself,” the two-term Democrat and wife of Trump’s 2016 rival, Hillary Clinton, said Saturday in a long and fiery rebuke to the current occupant of the Oval Office, the cruel MAGA and its hijacking of institutions and holidays.

Without ever directly uttering the 80-year-old Trump’s name, the 79-year-old Clinton seemed to shake off the dust of recent decades to become the insurrectionist activist of 1992 who toppled another Republican from the White House.

“Officials have unleashed masked agents on American communities to arrest people in their homes, workplaces and streets,” the ex-POTUS said bluntly. “They launched an unconstitutional war on a whim, without clear objectives or an exit strategy, and without any consideration for the consequences on the lives of millions of people around the world. »

Echoing his old line that “there is still nothing wrong with America that cannot be cured by what is good in America,” Clinton has become more specific than any former POTUS and most Democrats suffering from the ills that the MAGA forces and their Project 2025 are employing to attack American democracy and the dream of a more perfect union.

“With the help of lifetime Supreme Court appointees and a compliant Congress, they have weaponized the government to settle their personal scores, pursue their enemies, eradicate free speech, and turn the federal government into a new profit center for themselves and their allies,” the former president said, as reports circulate of new DOJ investigations against his rivals and Trump rakes in more than $2 billion since returning to power last year.

“Their New Deal is socialism for the super-rich (and their own enrichment), even if that means increased poverty, inequality, and disease at home and around the world. They also want to rewrite history to ignore and flatly deny our past flaws while banning books from our libraries that say otherwise. And they even select our military leaders based on their version of political correctness rather than their abilities.”

With much of the East Coast buckling under the heatwave and July 4 celebrations canceled for public safety reasons, Trump plans tonight to follow up his partisan speech at Mount Rushmore on Friday with a MAGA rally thinly disguised as a celebration of the 250th. Although Clinton’s remarks Saturday received muted coverage on network television due to the heatwave and Trump’s excesses, the former president deftly exploited the changes among the Democrats for a more combative approach to curbing MAGA.

So far, at every major turning point, we have chosen inclusion over division: in the early days of the Republic, building a national economic and legal system; during the Civil War, preserving the Union and ending slavery; in the early 20th century, as we transitioned from an agricultural society to an industrial society, strengthening our government to preserve competition, promote basic guarantees for work, and provide for the poor, elderly, and infirm; in the 1960s and 1970s, advancing civil and women’s rights and protecting our natural resources from plunder; and as we enter the new millennium, entering the global information age in ways that distribute the benefits of our interdependence to more people.

Our founders were wise when they gave us our mission to form a more perfect union. They knew America would never be perfect but it could always be better. That’s what they meant by “more perfect.” We achieved this by being courageous enough to recognize our flaws and missteps, then being bold enough to leave them behind for a better tomorrow.

This is the lesson of our first 250 years: we can always do better. In how we treat each other, in person and online; in building a better future for ourselves, our families and our communities; and by standing up, showing up, and defending our democracy.

There is still nothing wrong with America that cannot be cured by what is right about America. We see it in people lining up to vote, even though some try to stop them. We see it in those who bring groceries to their neighbors, donate to charity in record numbers, and serve their country and communities in countless ways. And we see it in immigrants eager to bring their talents, hard work and dreams to our country.
