Xi Jinping prepares China for war

The main event of the commemoration took place at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, where President Xi Jinpingonce again set out the objectives to be achieved. The main thing was undoubtedly the glorification of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), unambiguously entrusting it with “the realization of an inevitable historical destiny: the annexation of Taiwan and the subsequent reunification of China”.

This statement specifies that the troops of the People’s Republic will invade the “rebel island” shortly– marks the culmination of the restructuring of the armed forcescarried out through drastic purges, imprisonments, even death sentences for leaders who had deviated from the line demanded by Xi Jinping.

Since the beginning of this year, both General Zhang Youxiavice-chairman of the Central Military Commission and therefore the highest authority in the armed forces, and General Liu Zhenli, Chief of Staff, were unceremoniously fired. Even former defense ministers Wei Fenghe and Li Shangfu were sentenced to death, with suspended pardon. The latter, convicted after it was proven that they had received substantial bribes, were also the main leaders of China’s aerospace force, including its nuclear and hypersonic arsenals.

With this purge completePresident Xi Jinping made a significant change by handing control of defense to Admiral Dong Jun. In addition to receiving an implicit mandate to relentlessly pressure Taiwan, the current defense minister has been given an increased budget to pursue the project. “an essential rearmament of China to meet the challenges it faces in the Pacific”.

This is a clear reference to the pressure that current US President Donald Trump is exerting on China. The incessant sanctions he imposed on prevent Beijing from obtaining essential cutting-edge semiconductors weigh heavily on China’s rearmament, particularly with regard to artificial intelligence applied to defense and the precision of its hypersonic arsenal.

Far from being intimidated, Xi Jinping urged the CCP to maintain its iron fist to preserve the country’s unity. The nearly 100 million members of the CCP, or one in fourteen inhabitants, are considered by the Chinese leader as the country’s elite and he has therefore entrusted them with the mission of restoring the territorial integrity of the motherland, as well as projecting Beijing’s geopolitical vision throughout the world.

This constitutes not only a reaffirmation by China of its leadership in what is now called the Global South, but also a incites its forces to confront the United States and its allies around the world.

Latin America, Africa and Asia are at the center of concerns for Xi Jinping’s China. China is trying to convince all these regions that its model of development, industrialization and technological autonomy is a viable alternative on the path to modernization – a process which until now had been almost entirely monopolized by what we still call the West.

During the celebrations marking the 105th anniversary of the CPC, we of course had ample opportunity to highlight the major milestones of this century-a long history: the eradication of extreme poverty; the creation of the largest high-speed rail network in the world; the development of the most extensive education and health systems on the planet; and its consolidation as the world’s leading manufacturing power and key player in sectors such as infrastructure, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, electric mobility, scientific innovation and space exploration.

But above all, Xi Jinping urged people to focus on what the country can achieve in the short and medium term: to lead the new architecture or the new international order that is taking shape.
