“PSI’s goal of turning Central Java into an elephant enclosure is certainly not easy. There are two main causes,” said Esa Unggul University Political Communication Observer Mr. Jamiluddin Ritonga in a written statement, Tuesday (7/7/2026).
First, he said, the influence of Jokowi and Megawati Soekarnoputri is different in Central Java. “Jokowi is more populist and Megawati tends to be ideological,” said the former dean of FIKOM IISIP Jakarta.

He considers that Jokowi’s influence is more personal, populist and oriented towards social assistance (bansos). According to him, Jokowi’s approach is more pragmatic and can boost the elections in a short period of time.
