Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses Indian diaspora in Australia

The Prime Minister highlights the India-Australia partnership and the vision of Viksit Bharat.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed a large gathering of the Indian diaspora at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne during his official visit to Australia on July 9, 2026, with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese joining the community event, highlighting the strength of India-Australia relations.

Prime Minister Modi thanked the Indian community for their warm welcome and described the diaspora as a living bridge between the two countries. He praised his contributions to Australia’s multicultural society while preserving Indian cultural heritage and strengthening people-to-people ties.

Highlighting the growing partnership between India and Australia, Prime Minister Modi said the two countries are natural partners in economic growth, education, innovation, technology and regional stability. He highlighted the significant presence of Indian students in Australia and the growing number of Australian universities establishing campuses in India as examples of expanding bilateral cooperation.

Prime Minister Modi also highlighted India’s progress over the past decade, citing sustained economic growth, policy reforms, digital transformation, next-generation infrastructure, and advancements in manufacturing and emerging technologies. He said developments in semiconductors, smartphone manufacturing, defense production and innovation were creating new opportunities for global partnerships and investments.

He further highlighted the expansion of India’s digital public infrastructure, including DigiLocker and digital healthcare platforms, as examples of citizen-driven governance that improves access to public services.

Looking ahead, Prime Minister Modi expressed confidence that India-Australia cooperation would continue to grow in the areas of trade, education, science, technology, sports and innovation. He also encouraged the Indian diaspora to contribute their ideas, expertise and innovation to realize Viksit Bharat 2047, India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by its centenary of Independence.

The event brought together students, professionals, entrepreneurs, researchers, community leaders and representatives of cultural organizations. Australia is home to approximately one million people of Indian origin, reflecting the enduring people-to-people ties that continue to strengthen the India-Australia comprehensive strategic partnership on emerging technologies.
