Speaking to reporters Wednesday, President Trump suggested the United States might realign or withdraw its troops in response to his frustrations with European leaders’ handling of the Greenland and Iran crises.

The Republican said “a lot will depend on Greenland,” the NATO ally that the United States has pushed to take over despite strong protests from Denmark and many other European countries.

Trump also claimed that “a lot depended on Iran,” repeating his usual criticism that Europe had not done enough to support the initial U.S. war effort.

“When they had the chance, the opportunity to help, they chose not to,” the president said. “But we kind of forget that.”

Netanyahu, Trump agree to continue coordination in phone call

Benjamin Netanyahu and Donald Trump spoke on Thursday and agreed to continue coordination between their countries on different fronts.

“As part of the ongoing contacts between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump, an additional conversation took place this evening between the two, during which continued coordination between the countries in various sectors was established,” said a statement from the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office.

He adds that President Trump briefed Netanyahu on “US movements in the Gulf.”

“The Prime Minister, for his part, highlighted the seriousness of the statements made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his people against the existence of the State of Israel, as well as against the need for security zones along Israel’s borders.”

Oil tanker traffic through Hormuz almost at a standstill as attacks strain Iran truce

Tanker traffic crossing the Strait of Hormuz was virtually at a standstill on Thursday, data and sources showed, as risks to shipping intensified after the resumption of US airstrikes on Iran, triggering retaliation from Tehran in the Gulf.

So far, only two tankers had crossed the strait in the early hours of Thursday. Among them was the crude supertanker Berg 1, loaded on the Iranian island of Kharg and subject to US sanctions, according to the Kpler analysis.

The Marshall Islands-flagged chemical tanker Well Sail also transited the strait, the Kpler analysis showed. Its previous loading destination was near Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, according to LSEG ship tracking data.

Maritime industry sources said ships were increasingly turning off their public AIS tracking transponders, making it harder to see all vessels passing through.

The first so-called pilot zone in Lebanon, in which the Lebanese army will take control of an area now occupied by Israeli forces, will be launched in “a few days”.
