No. No. 4 women's tennis will take on No. 5 NCCU in the MEAC quarterfinals
BALTIMORE, Maryland (April 23, 2024)The Morgan State women's tennis team begins its quest for the program's third Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) tennis championship and first since 2018 when the fourth-seeded Lady Bears face fifth-seeded host North Carolina Central in the quarterfinals . on Thursday, April 25. The first service is scheduled for 8 a.m. at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, NC
Morgan State (5-14, 3-3 MEAC) defeated NCCU (15-1, 3-3 MEAC) in the regular season, 5-2 during the MEAC Round-Up (3/24) and won the head-to-head tiebreaker. The winner of Thursday's game will face No. 1 seed and defending champion South Carolina State on Friday at 9 a.m. in the semifinals, which will air live on ESPN+.
The Lady Bears enter the tournament on a two-game losing streak, having dropped their last two conference games on the road to Delaware State and Howard.
Prior to the recent losses, Morgan State had gone 5-2, including its final win of the season, a 5-2 win on Senior Day against visiting Saint Joseph's (4/16).
The Eagles (6-14, 3-3 MEAC) finished the regular season 2-4 in their last six games, including a tough 4-3 loss on Senior Day to the top-seeded SC State Lady Bulldogs in the final (4/12).
NCCU had two athletes earn All-MEAC honors: Alejandra Hidalgo Vega (First Team) and Candice Bernier (Second Team).
