USA advances to gold medal game with 7-2 win over Slovakia

Defenseman Will Skahan (Woodbury, Minn.) scored a third straight second-period goal for the United States by scoring his first of the tournament with 5:34 remaining in the second. Christian Humphreys (Pittsburgh, Pa.) made a nice pass to push LJ Mooney (West Mifflin, Pa.) into the offensive zone. He crossed the ice to Skahan with a ton of open ice. The defenseman fired a shot from the left circle over the blocker to make it 5-1 after 40 minutes.

Two Team USA forwards added their second scores of the afternoon in the third period. First, Eiserman scored on the power play, just 33 seconds into the final period after a quick back-and-forth with Plante.

With eight minutes left, Plante capped the scoring for the United States, completing a beautiful sequence of tic-tac-toe passes from Mooney and EJ Emery (Compton, California).

Slovakia found the back of the net with 42 seconds left in regulation for the final 7-2.

Kempf finished the competition with 16 saves, giving him wins in all five of his U18 Championship appearances. Jack Parsons (Ithaca, NY) made four saves in relief.

Team USA will advance to the gold medal game tomorrow (May 5) evening here in Espoo against Canada at 6:00 p.m. local/11:00 a.m. ET. The game will be broadcast live on NHL Network.
