No. 7 Men's Track & Field advances to the NCAA Championships on Friday in fourteenth place
FAYETTEVILLE, ARK. The No. 7 men's track and field program in Texas sent 14 entries to the NCAA Championships during the NCAA West Prelims on Friday.
The Longhorns have 17 entries for the NCAA Championship game, the most from either region. Florida has fourteen, while USC and Arkansas have fourteen.
The day started with two Longhorns advancing to the NCAA discus championships. Both Leo Neugebauer And Jeremiah Nubbe qualified for their second event at the NCAA Championships, with Neugebauer also competing in the decathlon and Nubbe in the hammer throw. Neugebauer recorded a throw of 58.46m (191-9), while Nubbe's throw of 57.97m (190-2) took them both to their second event at the big meet.
Kelsey Daniel was the last Longhorn to advance to a field event after finishing with the sixth-best jump of 15.91 m (52-2.50) in the triple jump.
Texas then sent 11 track entries to the final meet of the season, which began with the 4×100-meter relay. The team of Marcellus Moore, Nolton Shelvin, Almond Small And John Rutledge ran the 10e-fastest time in UT history at 38.97 to advance to Eugene.
Later, Moore ran a wind-assisted time of 9.99 and Shlevin ran a wind-assisted time of 10.04 to advance to the 100-meter semifinals.
Logan Cinderella qualified for the 400-meter semifinals with the second-fastest time in UT history at 45.23, the third-fastest time in the West. Yusuf Bizimana (1:46.19) and Cole Lindhorst (1:46.92) ran the top two times in the 800 meters to advance to the next round. Lindhorst's time was a personal record and moved him to No. 8 on the UT All-Time Artist List.
Sophomore Kody Blackwood advanced in the 400m hurdles with the eighth fastest time of 50.46 for a season's best. Caleb Cavanaugh also advanced to finish third in Heat 2 with a time of 51.01.
Both John Rutledge (20.28) and Shelvin (20.32) advanced in the 200 meter sprint. The pair will now compete in two events at the NCAA Championships.
Chris Brinkley's men's 4×400 meter relay, Brian Herron, Elijah Mosley and Popelka advanced to Orgeon with the second fastest time of the day at 3:01.53. The time is considered the fourth fastest time of the day.
