#CentennialCup | The Rockland Nationals fought back twice but fell short in a 4-2 loss to the host Summerside Western Capitals on Saturday night in the 2026 Centennial Cup.
The Nationals fell behind early after Summerside struck twice in the opening period. Alexandre Guy opened the scoring at 4:56, before Elliott Mullen added another goal late in the frame to give the Capitals a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Rockland responded in the second period and began generating momentum on the power play. Mavrick Brunet got the Nationals on the board at 9:30 with a man advantage, finishing passes from Vital Dinis and Gabriel Le Houillier to reduce the deficit to 2-1.
The Capitals answered later in the period, however, when Owen MacPherson restored Summerside’s two-goal lead at 13:21.
The Nationals pushed hard again early in the third period. John Micallef scored just 2:29 into the frame on a Mathys Laurent layup, bringing Rockland back within one.
Rockland continued to apply pressure late in regulation, pulling goaltender Kayden Newton on a late power play opportunity in search of the tying goal, but Brennan Murphy iced the game for Summerside with a short empty-net goal at 17:58. Newton made 26 saves in goal.
The Nationals will look to bounce back after opening the tournament with back-to-back losses following Thursday’s narrow loss to the Canmore Eagles.
