Lubin is on par with Taiwanese table tennis
Saint Lucian table tennis player Joshua Lubin has continued his journey in Taiwan and recently completed his education at Nangang Senior High School in Taipei. Taiwanese sports agent Tony Chiang Lin helped make his participation possible.
The 20-year-old, originally from Dennery and Entrepot, left for Taiwan in the summer of 2025. He started learning Mandarin at Ming Chuan University in preparation for a bachelor’s degree in biotechnology and food nutrition. At the same time, the Saint Lucia national under-19 champion has remained active in table tennis.
“During my time there, I focused on developing my table tennis skills, gaining valuable experience and building friendships with players and coaches,” said Lubin. “The atmosphere was great, especially because I was the only foreigner among them for so long.”
With support from the Embassy of Saint Lucia in Taiwan, Lubin trained for more than 80 hours at the school’s location for two months along with other aspiring table tennis players.
“I was impressed by the kindness and respect that both the players and coaching staff showed me,” Lubin said. “The coaches and players always made me feel welcome and were always willing to provide assistance when I needed help.
“The experience not only contributed significantly to my athletic development, but also allowed me to gain a deeper appreciation for Taiwanese culture and hospitality through my daily interactions with the team.”
On Wednesday, June 3, Lubin presented the head coach, assistant coaches and 30 players with a token of appreciation.
