Google Discover Feed is More Useful than You Think

Google Discover Feed is More Useful than You Think

The Google Discover feed can be found in a variety of places: it's just a swipe away from the home screen on most Android phones, it's front and center in the Google apps on Android and iOS, and it's even on the new tab page in Google Chrome on mobile, but in my opinion it doesn't get enough attention.

You're probably already a Google Discover fan and rely on these pages every day, but the people I know (which is admittedly a tiny fraction of the world's population) tell me that this constantly updating feed of news, reviews, and other updates isn't as widely known.

Your Google Discover feed surfaces high-quality web articles and other information (like sports scores) that are especially valuable to you, and you can customise it in a variety of ways.

How Google Discover Feed Works

Discover starts with some simple information. Credit: Lifehacker

Google Discover works right out of the box; you don't need to spend time setting it up before you can use it. You can find it in any of the places mentioned above, but we'll focus on using it on a Pixel phone (it works similarly for other apps). Just swipe left from the main home screen to find it.

As you may already know, Google knows a lot about you based on your search history and other activity within our apps, and we use this information to populate your Discover feed. Your feed will be different for each user, but it might show things like the weather in your location, the latest scores for your favorite sports teams, or places on Google Maps that you've recently searched for.

If your Discover feed is working as intended, it will also show you a list of recently published online articles that match your interests (in my case, technology, science, and soccer). You can tap on any of these articles to view them. It may also show links to Google apps and tools, such as Google Translate and a Google service that removes your personal information from web search results.

The Discover feed is never-ending. Keep scrolling down to see more recommendations for what to read. If you want new links, go to the top of the screen and pull down to refresh. The content you see is based on your activity on the web and in our apps. If you want an overview of how this information is collected, visit your Google Account dashboard on the web.

How to customize your Google Discover feed

Tell Google you're not interested. Credit: Lifehacker

If you don't quite like the recommended articles that appear in your Google Discover feed, there are a number of ways you can tweak them: For example, when you tap on the heart icon on an article you like, you may see a grid of emoji faces that you can use to give feedback on that particular recommendation.

Tap the three dots next to a story to let people know you're not interested in that story in particular, or the story's topic in general. The same pop-up menu also lets you block content from specific sources. To get even more granular with your feeds, tap[興味の管理]Tap the link.

You'll see some of your recent Google searches, as well as items you've saved in apps like Google Maps. Anything you've liked in your Discover feed by tapping the heart icon will also appear here. With all of these lists, if you don't want to see related recommendations, you can quickly remove an entry with just a tap. You'll also see topics that you've said you're not interested in, and you can edit this list.

Finally, tapping on your profile picture (top right) gives you access to various options related to Discover and your Google account in general. An important option in Discover is “Interests”, which takes you to the screen we've already mentioned, but also lets you view (and clear) your Google search history and check out your public Google profile.

The car insurance industry hasn't remained untouched by these changes. On the internet, drivers can compare insurance prices and find out which sellers have the best offers. View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price.
