Governor Evers, Senator Baldwin: Congratulate Milwaukee Area Technical College on Wisconsin being officially named a tech capital

Milwaukee Governor Tony Evers, along with U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), visited Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC), a member of the Wisconsin Biohealth Tech Hub Consortium, to celebrate Wisconsin's official designation as a U.S. Regional Tech Hub. During the visit, Governor Evers and Senator Baldwin, along with MATC Chairman Anthony Cruz and other consortium members, toured MATC and held a press conference to highlight the benefits this designation will bring to Wisconsin's economy and workforce.

The visit comes after the Governor and Senators announced earlier this month that Wisconsin has been officially selected as a U.S. Regional Tech Hub by the U.S. Economic Development Administration, injecting $49 million into growing the state's personalized medicine and biohealth sector, including advancing research and innovation, growing the state's economy and creating jobs, and improving U.S. competitiveness in cutting-edge industries. This coveted designation will enable Wisconsin's consortium of 18 public and private partners, organized by the Evers Administration through the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC), to advance research, expand lab space, increase coordination and collaboration, improve access to capital for business start-up and growth, and further build the personalized medicine and biohealth technology sector.

“It's no secret that Wisconsin's multi-billion dollar biohealth industry is a huge economic driver that supports tens of thousands of jobs across the state. The state has been an active participant in the Tech Hub process from the beginning, and I am pleased that my administration was able to play a part in bringing this important designation to Wisconsin,” said Governor Evers. “I want to thank Senator Baldwin and the Biden-Harris Administration for their leadership and partnership in this important effort, and for their support of MATC and the other members of the Biohealth Consortium. Together, we will ensure Wisconsin continues to lead innovation in this cutting-edge field.”

“Jobs, jobs and more jobs. That's what the Tech Hub means for Wisconsin,” said Senator Baldwin. “From high-tech labs to behind the scenes computers to foundries, the Tech Hub will create a whole range of opportunities for Wisconsinites in growing sectors. It's been amazing to see how our Tech Hub partners at MATC are helping Wisconsinites gain the skills they need to get jobs that support their families, grow our made-in-Wisconsin economy and ensure our state continues to lead the world in innovation.”

Over the first 10 years, the Tech Hub designation is projected to create more than 30,000 jobs in the personalized healthcare field and more than 111,000 indirect jobs attributable to the Wisconsin Tech Hub. Additionally, the Tech Hub is projected to generate $9 billion worth of economic development for Wisconsin over its first 10 years.

“Wisconsin's biohealth sector will transform healthcare and improve patient outcomes, unlocking new possibilities for innovation and entrepreneurship that will benefit residents in every region of our state,” said WEDC Executive Director and CEO Missy Hughes. WEDC is grateful for the active support of Senator Baldwin and Governor Evers in advancing this important partnership.

Through WEDC, the Evers Administration has created and led the Wisconsin BioHealth Tech Hub Consortium, which includes BioForward Inc., GE HealthCare, Rockwell Automation, Exact Sciences Corporation, Employ Milwaukee, Accuray, Plexus, WRTP Big Step, Forward BIOLABS, University Research Park, Medical College of Wisconsin, University of Wisconsin System, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Milwaukee Area Technical College, Madison Area Technical College, Madison Regional Economic Partnership (MadREP), and Milwaukee.

Governor Evers and Senator Baldwin have worked together to designate Wisconsin as a technology hub and have promoted continued investment in Wisconsin's growing personalized medicine and biohealth technology industries every step of the way.

January 2022: Senator Baldwin votes to pass the CHIPS and Science Act, successfully incorporating $500 million for a Tech Hub program to help develop new technologies, create jobs, and expand innovation in the United States, a provision modeled on a Brookings Institution report that identified Wisconsin as a top candidate for a regional hub. February 2022: Governor Evers, along with 21 other governors across the country, wrote to congressional leadership in support of the CHIPS Act and urging swift bipartisan action to ensure the bill's passage. March 2023: In a letter to the EDA, Senator Baldwin urges the U.S. Department of Commerce to select Wisconsin as one of the tech hubs. August 2023: The Evers Administration, through WEDC, established the Wisconsin Biohealth Tech Hub Consortium, bringing together 18 public and private partners to advance the state's efforts and submit an application to the EDA to secure a tech hub designation. August 2023: Senator Baldwin advocated for Wisconsin's application for the Tech Hub Program, highlighting the state's potential to be at the forefront of the biotechnology and personalized medicine sectors. Senator Baldwin also hosted events in Madison and Milwaukee urging the Biden Administration to attract a tech hub to the Badger State. September 2023: Senator Baldwin again urged the Biden Administration to select Wisconsin for a planning grant to advance a biohealthtech hub. October 2023: Governor Evers and Senator Baldwin announced that Wisconsin has been selected as one of 31 tech hubs nationwide and awarded a $350,000 planning grant to implement a biohealthtech hub strategy. This moves Wisconsin forward to Phase II, where it will compete for an implementation grant, which was awarded today. Senator Baldwin also rallied support from local and state partners to demonstrate Wisconsin's commitment to attracting a tech hub to Wisconsin. February 2024: Governor Evers signs Senate Bill 894 (now Wisconsin Act 96 of 2023), providing $7.5 million to BioForward, matching the federal grant and designating the company as a lead consortium member for the purpose of receiving a Regional Tech Hub Implementation Grant. February 2024: Senator Baldwin and Governor Evers ask the Biden Administration to assist the Wisconsin BioHealth Tech Hub in applying for Wisconsin implementation funding. June 2024: Senator Baldwin meets privately with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo to make a final recommendation for Wisconsin to be selected for BioHealth Tech Hub implementation. July 2024: Governor Evers and Senator Baldwin announced that Wisconsin has been officially selected as a US Regional Tech Hub, injecting $49 million into growing the state's personalized medicine and biohealth sector, including advancing research and innovation, growing the state's economy and creating jobs, and improving US competitiveness in cutting-edge industries. The designation will allow the Wisconsin BioHealth Tech Hub Consortium to foster research, expand lab space, increase coordination and collaboration, improve access to capital for business startup and growth, and further build the personalized medicine and biohealth technology sector. Evers and WEDC submitted a request to the Republican-majority Joint Finance Committee (JFC) to award $7.5 million to BioForward, Inc. to establish the state's US Regional Tech Hub, as provided for in Wisconsin Act 96 of 2023, which Governor Evers signed in February. The committee awarded the funds on July 9, 2024.

Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless.
