Stephen Banks has been appointed Senior Vice President of Design

We are pleased to announce that Stephen Banks has been promoted to Senior Vice President of Design. In his new role, Banks will work closely with the Director of Design and Creative Director to implement new workflows and build the team’s digital skills while continuing his work elevating design and expressing our brand across platforms.

Banks rejoined the Los Angeles Times in 2019 as Artistic Director, and was soon promoted to Deputy Director of Design to oversee lifestyle, dining and entertainment design. He is a fierce advocate of design direction and art as an integral part of the editorial process and has led design efforts in some of our most ambitious stories – including his recent work in the hiking guide and seismic section online and in print. His work in design has won countless awards from the News Design Society, and he recently won a Silver Medal from the Society of Publication Designers for his work in the Vegas Division of Outstanding 2020.

During his first tenure at The Times, Banks was a designer for LA Times Sunday Magazine and various feature divisions. After leaving in 2006, he went to Los Angeles Magazine, where he worked as design director, overseeing design and photography. He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Parsons School of Design in New York.
