Thousands join anti-racism protests in the UK – BBC News
Dozens of people have joined anti-racism demonstrations in the UK, despite fears of protesters spreading coronaviruses despite calls for protesters to stay home.
Many who took to the streets wore face covers and gloves. London, Manchester, Cardiff, Leicester and Sheffield were some of the places that saw the ‘Black Lives Matter’ protests after George Floyd was killed in the US city of Minneapolis.
The demonstrations were largely peaceful, but police clashed outside Downing Street this afternoon, and mounted agents marched through Whitehall to protest.
Meanwhile, the US capital Washington has seen the largest protests to date, following the death of George Floyd during a week of protests and public unrest.
There have also been protests in Australia over indigenous discrimination and inequality in the country.
Clive Myrie has presented BBC News reports in Chi Chi Izundu in London, Aleem Maqbool in Washington and Shaimaa Khalil in Australia.
