Rescue work is underway in Khuzdar quake-hit areas – Pakistan

Khuzdar: Relief and rehabilitation work is underway in the quake-hit areas of Ornaji in Tahsel Valley in Khuzdar District on Saturday.

A 5.2-magnitude earthquake hit large areas of Ornaghi including Sonaro, Nali, Lucky Pat and Zamri that day, destroying mud houses and partially damaging more than 260 houses.

More than 200 families were made homeless in the earthquake, and they were evacuated and moved to safer places.

Deputy Commissioner of Khuzdar Retired Major Muhammed Ilyas Kebzai visited the affected areas with officials from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and supervised relief and rehabilitation work.

Tents, blankets, amenities, drinking water and food rations have been distributed to those affected by the earthquake “Relief and rehabilitation work is in full swing and the government will not leave victims alone at this difficult time,” Mr. Kibzai said, adding that members of Levi’s Force and other rescue workers were helping those affected.

He said that after the rescue and relief work, in the second phase, the government will start to rehabilitate those affected by the earthquake after estimating their losses, and for this purpose a survey has also started in the area.

He said PDMA sent relief items in six trucks, including food, tents, blankets, water tanks and other necessities.

Mir Muhammed Akbar Mangal also visited the quake-hit areas and inspected the ongoing rehabilitation work there. He said a large area was affected by the earthquake and people were staying in the open. He said the government should provide immediate relief to those affected.
