Qatar Red Crescent allocates $100,000 for emergency response to Philippine earthquake

Doha: In response to the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck Abra Province and other parts of the northwest Philippines in late July, the Qatar Red Crescent Society activated the Disaster Information Management Center (DIMC) on July 27, 2022, and deployed its field staff. To assess the damages in cooperation with the Philippine Red Cross, allocated $100,000 (365,000 QR) from the Disaster Response Fund to launch an emergency humanitarian intervention.

The relief plan includes distributing food supplies to the 500 families, or 2,500 people, hardest hit by the earthquake, as well as deploying a food truck to distribute fresh meals.

Meanwhile, Qatar Red Crescent is coordinating with Movement partners and the Philippine Red Cross to organize emergency relief interventions and identify target areas and real needs, which will then be provided.

Situation assessment reports indicate 10 deaths, 349 injuries, 24,901 partially or completely destroyed homes, 50,514 evacuees, and 1,007 families hosted by temporary shelters. In total, the earthquake affected more than 1,784,258 people.

The relief aid that the Qatar Red Crescent has already provided to the Philippine Red Cross has greatly helped in meeting the needs of many victims, especially water tankers scattered around the affected areas to distribute clean drinking water to the local community and the displaced.
