1. How did you end up being creative?

Once I realized that you could get paid to tell long tales I was hooked. In addition, my failures in mathematics and physics unfortunately prevented me from participating in the space program.

2. What is your favorite work in your portfolio?

That would be a throw between “Mothers’ Prayer” and my short documentary Volta. I think it’s very beautiful visually and it’s even earned some pretty glamorous awards.

3. What is your favorite work created by someone else?

I would be very happy with anything Martin de Thorah or Garth Davis made. Although if I had to pick one piece in the ad, it would probably be James Ross’ touching film “Hope” for the International Committee of the Red Cross. It’s a powerful and meticulous performance by both actors and delivers an unexpected emotional punch. I think about it often.

4. What are your main creative influences?

Cello music, philosophy and 80’s movies from my childhood. Sometimes in that order.

5. What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?

Survive the collapse of a Mexican hotel in the 8.1 earthquake and drive non-stop through the resulting disaster area, avoiding landslides and car-sized boulders. It is better to list the details on a few strong drinks.

6. Who is your favorite person?

Ronald MacDonald.

7. What advice would you give your 10-year-old, if you could?

Find a better place to hide when you start stealing your father’s beer in about three years.

8. What really motivates you?

The gentle undertones of a product whispering to the holy boy: “You’ve gone over time and budget.”

9. What is your favorite music/movie/TV show/book/latest of the past year, and why?

I’m a bit of a Star Wars nerd, so the original trilogy (FYI Han shot first). I’ve really enjoyed Severance for the past few weeks on Apple TV+. It has a perfect balance between mystery and exoticism. Great staff, looks great and Defiant Jazz could be my all-time favorite scene.
