Hundreds report shaking in North Carolina from the quake; It is not related to Sonic Booms or Jet Crash

Hundreds of people have reported parts of North Carolina being shaken by the earthquake that hit the area this morning. This seismic activity is not related to a mysterious event involving a private plane, Washington, D.C. airspace, scrambled fighter jets, sonic booms, or a private plane crash in Virginia. According to the USGS, at 6:09 this morning, a 3.2-magnitude earthquake struck near West Canton, North Carolina, just west of the Asheville area in the western part of the state. The earthquake was at a depth of 2 km.

Almost 600 people have used “Did You Feel It?” A reporting tool on the USGS website to report that they felt shaking in parts of North Carolina this morning. An earthquake also occurred here on May 23. The May 23 earthquake was weaker than it is today. The USGS classified it as a magnitude 2.6 event. A few weeks before that earthquake, on May 12, there was also a magnitude 2.1 earthquake that originated near Bienville.

According to the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality, while earthquakes are no stranger to North Carolina, large and destructive earthquakes are rare. Large, destructive seismic events are rare, and the few that have been felt in North Carolina have epicenters outside the state. Most earthquakes in North Carolina originate from the East Tennessee seismic region to the west, the Charleston or South Carolina seismic region to the south, or the Central Virginia seismic region to the north. The earthquake occurred hours before a mysterious weather disaster occurred in Virginia. A private Cessna Citation jet that was scheduled to land in Islip, on Long Island, mis-landed and flew on a southwesterly course, which put it over restricted airspace in Washington, D.C. North American Aerospace Defense Command, known as NORAD, said in a statement that the F-16 fighter jets were cents to intercept the aircraft and failed to contact the pilot. “The NORAD plane was allowed to travel at supersonic speed, and the sonic boom may have been heard by residents of the area,” NORAD said. The blast was heard and felt in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and the larger Washington, DC metro.
