A 2.3 M earthquake was recorded Monday morning in northern Mississippi

Tunis, Missouri (WTJV) – A weak earthquake was recorded on Monday at 7:45 am CST in northwest Mississippi. The US Geological Survey (USGS) revised the magnitude of the earthquake down from 2.6 to 2.3. Vibration is not expected with weak earthquakes. The US Geological Survey reported that the epicenter of the earthquake was 10 miles below Lake Tunica along the Mississippi River.

This is the second earthquake of the year in Mississippi. On February 29, there was a weak M 2.1 earthquake near Bonneville, MS (Prentice County). In 2019 there were three earthquakes in the state.
