An earthquake shakes Corona and “something bigger” could follow.

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.1 struck Wednesday afternoon near Corona in Riverside County.

The US Geological Survey said the quake occurred at 1:49 p.m. about 5.3 miles southwest of Corona. The quake's magnitude was initially reported as 4.5 but was later reduced.

Residents of Riverside and Orange counties reported that the quake was a quick jolt followed by a few seconds of shaking.

A preliminary magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck Wednesday afternoon near Corona in Riverside County, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The earthquake was also felt by residents of Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties.

Hesperia resident Robin Franklin told the Daily Press that she was standing in her garage when she felt a “soft shock” under her feet.

“My dogs let out some barks and then go back to sleep,” Franklin said. “I checked my phone and saw we had an earthquake.”

Seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones told ABC News that the Corona earthquake is part of a sequence. Nearly a dozen earthquakes were recorded on Tuesday at the same location, the largest of which had a magnitude of 2.8.

“Like any earthquake, there will be a 5% chance that a larger earthquake will follow within the next couple of days,” Jones said.

The authorities stated that there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
