Demolition work is not progressing 6 months after the Noto earthquake
Publicly funded demolition work is behind schedule, roads remain blocked by debris, and water supplies remain cut off as of July 1, the sixth anniversary of the Noto Peninsula earthquake.
An increasing number of earthquake victims are moving from evacuation centers to temporary housing, taking their first steps towards rebuilding their lives.
But the work to restore their lives has been hampered by the slow pace of infrastructure repair.
According to the Ishikawa Prefectural Government, the death toll from the January 1 earthquake had risen to 281 people, including 52 “disaster-related deaths,” as of June 27.
This was the third highest number of earthquake disasters since the end of the Showa era (1926-1989), after the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami of 2011 and the Great Hanshin Earthquake of 1995.
The number of casualties in Ishikawa Prefecture is expected to rise. It is expected that 18 people have been confirmed dead after direct damage caused by the earthquake.
At least 133 bereaved families requested reviews of disaster-related deaths.
The number of people injured in the earthquake reached 1,207, and three people are still missing.
The number of destroyed homes reached 8,053, while 16,746 homes sustained severe damage.
Of the 20,900 or so requests for public-expense demolition work, only 4 percent have been completed. In some affected areas, the landscape remains largely unchanged from what it was immediately after the quake.
Construction of 4,943 temporary housing units in nine municipalities has been completed, equivalent to about 70% of the required number, and 3,951 families have moved into them.
Local governments in three prefectures in the Hokuriku region are also renting private housing to earthquake victims.
Currently, about 3,800 families live in these temporary homes, mainly in Kanazawa and other southern areas of Ishikawa Prefecture, as well as in Niigata Prefecture.
Municipal governments held meetings to exchange views with residents to develop reconstruction plans, and preparations for work began.
However, from January to May, 4,193 people moved from six cities and towns, such as Wajima and Suzu, which were badly hit. That's 3 percent of the population of 120,000 as of New Year's Day.
The earthquake damage was not limited to Ishikawa Prefecture.
According to the Fire and Disaster Management Agency of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 50 people were injured, 106 homes were destroyed and 3,766 homes were severely damaged in Niigata Prefecture as of June 25.
In Toyama Prefecture, 51 people were injured, 249 homes were destroyed, and 772 homes were severely damaged.

Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily.
