Guam will participate in the world's largest earthquake drill, Great ShakeOut, at 10:17 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, according to Guam Homeland Security and the Office of Civil Defense.

Participants will practice earthquake response procedures, “Drop, Cover, and Hold” wherever they are.

The exercise will last for one minute.

Guam residents will join nearly 50 million ShakeOut participants worldwide, from territories such as the United States, Hawaii, British Columbia, CNMI, New Mexico, Japan, Puerto Rico and others.

GHS and OCD encourage all residents to increase earthquake preparedness and response by practicing how to protect themselves during an earthquake and how to ensure an earthquake disaster does not turn into a disaster.

ShakeOut participation provides the opportunity to evaluate emergency plans, increase earthquake safety awareness, and improve resiliency within your community.
