San Jose Earthquakes transfer Emi Ochoa to Cruz Azul

The San Jose Earthquakes announced on Friday that they have transferred local goalkeeper Emi Ochoa to Liga MX side Cruz Azul.

The 19-year-old Mexico youth international departs for a reported $2 million fee.

Ochoa signed with San Jose in November 2019 at the age of 14 years and 191 days, becoming at the time the second-youngest player to sign in MLS and the youngest home-grown signing. He made his first-team debut last May, recording a clean sheet in a 1-0 win over USL Championship side Auckland Roots SC in the US Open Cup.

Ochoa has featured primarily for San Jose's MLS NEXT Pro side, recording 13 clean sheets in 48 appearances for The Town FC between 2022-24.

The deal marks Cruz Azul's second MLS signing of 2025, following the move of left-back Omar Campos from Los Angeles. La Máquina also includes former Atlanta United striker Giorgos Giakoumakis.

Looking to bounce back from the end of the wooden spoon in 2024, San Jose will begin its new season on February 22 at home against Real Salt Lake (10:30 p.m. ET | MLS Season Ticket).
