Greece announces a state of emergency on Santorini after earthquakes World news

The Greek authorities declared a state of emergency in Santorini after they shook a series of earthquakes in the famous tourist destination.

More than 10,000 residents and workers escaped from the island this week, as semi -fixed tremors and lower earthquakes were recorded between Santorini, the Isorgos, Anafi and iOS islands.

An earthquake of 5.2 on Wednesday night – the strongest registered since the activity began on January 31.

The authorities warned of the high risk of landslide, closed schools, sent rescuers, and advised residents to avoid ports and internal gatherings.

Some of the famous cities of Al -Jarf were cordoned out on the island.

The army units, firefighting and police units were also deployed.

The state of emergency is scheduled to be in place until March 3 to allow the climate crisis in Greece and the Ministry of Civil Protection to respond to the consequences of seismic activity.
