Art Power: One year after the Nuto Peninsula earthquake

The city of Suzu, Ishikawa, was injured on January 1, 2024. The volunteers are working hard to restore normal life to the lives of the locals, for a year or more, and art has a valuable role.

Yamagata explains, always smiling, “Some people may question the value of art in the current state in Noto. But this is because they think about art as something that you make and display. Help in passing it after losing her home

Yamagata was at home with her family watching TV when the earthquake hit. Noto had many tremors over the past years, so you didn't think about it at first. But soon, the ceiling, walls and windows began in the spiral and her house began to collapse.

Like many others, Yamagata faced life as a vacation, but at the same time, she also had to perform her duties as an adult. For more than 10 years, she was helping the elderly people with dementia and other insufficient judgment, in dealing with administrative procedures, medical care and nursing service contracts, and property management, under the appointment of the Family Court.

At the time of the earthquake, she had nine people under her auspices, hospitals and other facilities in which they lived their call to obtain permission to evacuate these patients.
