The number of deaths in the earthquake rises to 72 in the Philippines, while the survivors remember a moment when the tragedy struck

Bogo, Philippines (AP)-When firefighters took out the body of his 4-year-old son in a bag from a budget hotel that was destroyed by a 6.9-scale earthquake in the center of the Philippines, Isgani Gilge deviated and gently hit the black body bag for several minutes, in an attempt to ignite the remains of his child inside for the last time.
A bag containing the body of Gelig's wife, a reception employee at Condor Pension House, was then implemented. I worked there at night while caring for their son, John. One of the two movables handed him a mobile phone found in her body and nodded his head with confirmation that he was.
Gilge and his family had summoned feverish after the strong earthquake shook the city of Bugo in the province of Sibu on Tuesday night, but it has never captured.
“I wandered on the rubble and continued to call their names,” Gilge told Associated Press next to the hotel's ruins, where he and their men discovered their remains on the first floor.
The death toll from the earthquake rose to at least 72 people on Thursday with nearly 300 people. Disaster officials said there were no reports of additional people missing. More than 170,000 people, including many who refused to return to their homes because they were shocked and afraid of wireless tremors.
The earthquake has damaged or destroyed 87 buildings and about 600 homes in Bugo, a relatively new coastal city of about 90,000 external towns. The bridges and concrete roads were damaged and a sea port collapsed in Bugo.
The earthquake was operated at about 10 pm through a rift below the shallow sea line. Filipino seismologists said it had not moved for at least 400 years.
President Ferdinand Marcus Junior flew to Bugo on Thursday to assess damage and provide assistance and support to survivors during mourning with the families of the victims. A few days ago, the president was in the central region after a fierce storm left at least 37 people the death of more than half a million people, including Sibu County.
The two countries offer condolences and support
The United States, a treaty ally for a long time in the Philippines, provided after the earthquake. Many other countries, including China and Japan, have expressed condolences.
“Japan always stands with the Philippines in overcoming this time of difficulties,” Japanese Prime Minister Shigro Eshiba said in a letter to Marcus.
One of the most disaster countries in the world, often reaches the Philippines with earthquakes and volcanic eruptions because of its location on the “Fire Ring” in the Pacific Ocean, which is an arc of seismic errors around the ocean.
The archipelago lacks about 20 hurricanes and storms every year, making disaster response a major task for the government and volunteer groups.
Victims and survivors share horrific stories
Soon after the crushing of the earthquake Bugo, the Red Cross tried to summon one of its full -time volunteers who lived in the city.
Ian was, 49 years old, a very trained response. When it did not respond, the Red Cross team was published. His house collapsed and found inside, was buried in the rubble while he was embracing his 14 -year -old son, who was injured. The Secretary -General of the Red Cross said Jindolin Bang.
Bang said: “He chose to be his son's shield.” “This is the type of people we have, and live with a innate instinct to help others. In this case, the last person to save him was his son.”
While most people were at home when the earthquake hit, Brian Sinangut watched basketball game with less than 100 spectators in San Remigio, outside Bogo. Everyone froze. The 49 -year -old said that when the shaking became up and very down, everyone came out of the gym in a state of panic.
A sports roof collapsed, killing three coast guard members and a firefighter. Sinangote said he tried to roll but partially besieged. It was later pulled by the Coast Guard members and treated for facial and arm injuries.
The first brush was not with death. And remember how Hurricane Hayan, one of the most powerful tropical hurricanes, destroyed his house in San Remigio in 2013. Hayan left more than 7,300 dead or missing people, causing the entire villages to flatten and caused the operation of ships and equipped homes in the center of the Philippines.
“It is heartbreaking to hear what happened to the city of Bugo,” Sinangote said, adding that the Filipinos have no choice but to learn to live alongside disasters. “After Hurricane Hayyan destroyed my home, I built it again in one year. We just have to be ready for anything.”
