KatRisk acquires RED to expand its earthquake and multi-hazard capabilities

KatRisk, a global provider of disaster risk modeling software for the insurance and financial services industries, announced that it has acquired RED, a company specializing in disaster modeling across earthquake, flood, landslide and wind risks.

The acquisition aims to enhance KatRisk’s multi-hazard modeling capabilities and accelerate the development of a high-resolution model of US earthquakes. RED’s European seismic model will also be integrated into KatRisk’s SpatialKat platform, giving customers access to seismic hazard models alongside other climate and weather-related risks.

With the addition of RED, KatRisk expands beyond its current strengths in floods, tropical hurricane force winds, severe convective storms, and wildfire modeling, enhancing its ability to provide a unified risk analysis platform for insurers, reinsurers and financial institutions.

The combined capabilities are expected to support improved risk assessment, underwriting and portfolio management, especially as demand for integrated climate and geophysical risk insights increases.
