The death toll from the Venezuela earthquake has risen to more than 4,700 people

Caracas – July 15 (SANA) The death toll from the two powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24 has risen to more than 4,700 people, while about 17,000 people were injured, according to updated official figures.

Agence France-Presse, citing an official report published by the President of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodriguez, on the Telegram application, said that the confirmed death toll reached at least 4,734 people, while 16,740 people were injured. Most of the wounded were discharged from hospitals after receiving treatment.

The Venezuelan government said that the earthquakes damaged more than 850 buildings, while 190 buildings and residential complexes completely collapsed.

The authorities have not yet announced the final figure for the number of missing people. Estimates of the United Nations and other international organizations range between 10,000 and 50,000 people still missing since the disaster.

The quakes, with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, struck the capital Caracas and the neighboring state of La Guaira just 39 seconds apart, causing widespread devastation and turning entire high-rise residential complexes into rubble.
