7 Hero: A Meridian Man raises donations to fix an old friend’s roof

92-year-old Richard Norse has lived in the same house his entire life. When a leak occurred in his roof, his best friends and the community joined forces to redesign it.

Boise, Idaho – Richard Gull was born in 1927. He grew up in a small white house in Meridian before the city became the fast-growing area it is today.

He lived there for over 90 years.

This little white house means everything to Nawras. It was built by his grandfather and was one of the first buildings in the city. At 92 years old, he pays great attention and love to maintaining his home for life.

“When we came here in 1931, I was four years old,” said Nawras. “My first memory was looking out the window here.”

When the community needs a new roof, come together to provide assistance in the most wonderful way to achieve it.

Because the house is older, the roof is a bit worn out. However, when the Treasure Valley earthquake struck in March, a leak occurred.

“Well, I went up there, and I could see the crack,” said Nawras. “It doesn’t bother me a little bit to get up there on the roof and even climb the road. I corrected it but it’s still leaking.”

This is where his dear friend, Trevor Kensall, got in. He works in an office near Nawras’ house and stops to visit him whenever he gets.

“I am just impressed with his stories and the history he has in this region is amazing,” Kneissal said.

Norse told Knissal that it was time to return to the surface and apply more tar to cover the leak.

Kneissal did not like the voice of the man who did something to help his friend.

“I put together the Go Fund ME page,” he said, “shared it with a few groups on Facebook and massively condensed the community.” “I mean, the response I got was ridiculous.”

Donations started pouring in from all over the community.

In addition to the generosity of Meridian locals, Ridge Runners Remodeling agreed to repair Nourse’s roof for half the price after meeting him.

“We need more people like him,” said Eric Libby or Ridge Runners.

Several roofing materials have been donated to the rebuilding crew. Once they got to the Norse house, they got the right to work.

“Trevor made the Bishop Company come in, so it was nice for him to do,” said Norse. “It’s just about my best friend.”

Kneissal said he is very influenced by how society is held together.

“He is not asking for help, and he has not asked for any of this,” Knissal said. “I was very touched by everything.”

Thanks to the Knesal and the Meridian community, Nourse has a completely new roof.

“They said it’s good for 50 years,” said Nawras. “And of course, I said: Maybe I won’t be around!” I think it’s cool.

Now, this tiny home with a lot of history will live in the heart of Meridian, just the way Gull wants.
