Earthquake Hits Southern California – Orange County Record

An earthquake jolted southern California late Friday.

The earthquake struck shortly after 11:30 p.m. and was initially classified as a 4.6-magnitude earthquake, according to the US Geological Survey. Its center was about 1.8 miles west from El Monte.

Moderate to light shaking was felt from Goleta to Indio, as far north as Palmdale and as far south as San Diego, according to the USGS.

Seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones said in a tweet that the earthquake occurred near the epicenter of the October 1, 1987 Whitier Narrows earthquake, with a magnitude of 5.9.

“It was a good jolt here in Pasadena,” she wrote on Twitter.

The Los Angeles Fire Department immediately headed for the earthquake situation, with all 106 fire stations examining their areas for damage, President Ralph M.

There were no immediate reports of damage at Los Angeles International Airport, but aircraft crews are thoroughly checking the airport and terminal, according to Los Angeles Global Airports.
