5.1-magnitude earthquake strikes parts of southern Luzon, the National Capital Region

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said an earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale shook Camarines Norte, Bulacan, Metro Manila and other parts of southern Luzon.

In the Preliminary Seismological Bulletin, state seismologists said the quake struck 24 kilometers (kilometers) northeast of TInaga Island in Vinzons, Camarines Norte at 6 a.m.

Phypholics said it was tectonic in origin and was 1 km deep.

The earthquake was felt in the form of a fourth intensity in Kabalonga, Jose Panganipan in Camarens Norte and Intensity 3 in Jinyangan, Quezon.

Earthquake was recorded as Intensity II in Goa, Naga City, Camarines Sur, Calauag, Quezon, and Intensity I in Cainta and Rizal; Marikina City and Pasig City, Metro Manila; And San Raphael, Bulacan.

Vivolux warned that aftershocks could be expected.
