A small remarkable earthquake was recorded on Sunday morning

There was a small earthquake in New Brunswick early Sunday morning.

A 2.6 magnitude earthquake was recorded in a woodland area south of Mount Carlton Provincial Park at 4:23 am, according to Natural Canada.

The effect is likely to be minimal.

“It would be very localized, if at all,” said Stephen Crane, a research scientist at Natural Resources Canada. “We don’t expect to feel it very far.

To put it into perspective, Crane said the damage threshold is around 5.0. “So 2.6 is really small compared to what we’d expect to cause harm,” he said.

The earthquake in the region is not that strange.

125 earthquakes in 10 years

There have been around 125 earthquakes of magnitude 2.0 or more in the general vicinity in the past 10 years, the largest of which was 3.7, according to Crane.

“So this area has a history of earthquakes, but it was very small, at least for a while,” Crane said.

He said, “It is a great deal of earthquakes in an area that does not suffer from earthquakes much, but it is clear that there are other areas in Canada that suffer much more.”

Crane said no one reported feeling the earthquake until Sunday afternoon, but he said it was important to track all earthquakes regardless of size.

He said that the earthquake, which occurred on Sunday morning, will be added to a database used to study earthquake patterns.

“It is a good reminder that an earthquake can really happen anytime and anywhere,” he said.
