Trump’s election fraud investigation is headed by the Georgia Supreme Court
A criminal investigation into attempts by former President Donald Trump to overturn the results of the 2020 elections in Georgia will intensify this week as a large jury convenes, offering the local district attorney the first shot to seek citations for records and interviews. County District Attorney Fani Willis Fulton made clear his intentions for the investigation in letters to state officials in Georgia in February asking him to keep documents relevant to election intervention while investigating election fraud, conspiracy and racketeering requests. According to the letters, none of the Georgia officials is the target of the investigation. “What I was doing, as a courtesy to people I respect very much, is just to warn them that when a grand jury was due in March they were expected to receive citations,” Willis told MSNBC in February. Two grand juries will meet in Fulton County on Thursday, and Willis will pave the way for the next phase in his probe. One person familiar with the investigation said he is more likely to rely on citations than on voluntary requests for records and interviews to establish a clear forensic record of obtaining evidence to some extent. Meanwhile, several Georgia officials have already hired personal lawyers as a result of Trump’s efforts to lift election results. Starting with the now-famous convocation of Willis ’investigation, Trump urged Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to“ find ”enough votes to win the state, which is expected to go beyond that single call. “There may be nothing there,” said one person familiar with the investigation, “or it may be wider than we thought.” #CNN #NewDay #SaraMurray.
