PUBLIC REVIEW of the 6th edition of the WHO Laboratory Manual for Human Seed Testing and Processing
WHO Laboratory Manual for Testing and Processing of Human Sperm (originally WHO Laboratory Manual for Examining the Interaction of Human Semen and Sperm and Cervical Mucus) was first published in 1980, in response to the growing need to standardize procedures for testing human semen. The handbook has been revised four times (Belsey et al., 1980, World Health Organization, 1987, World Health Organization, 1992, World Health Organization, 1999, World Health Organization, 2010), widely read and translated into numerous languages. . Indeed, over the last thirty years, the manual has become a recognized standard and is used extensively in clinical and research laboratories around the world. It is a procedural manual not only for those new to seed analysis, but it is a reference for anyone who processes and examines seed to define its parameters for clinical practice or clinical and epidemiological research.
Over the past ten years, many new tests and techniques available for clinical and research purposes have been validated. Prompted by these considerations, the WHO has established an Editorial Board (EB) to review all methods described in 5th Publication of the Manual for the purpose of support, change or update.
Public review
From March 16 to Friday, April 9, 2021 CET, the draft manual will be in public discussion. The review will be guided along the way online questionnaire. Participants will be asked questions about, comprehensiveness, clarity, usefulness, consistency, general content, desired form / design and accompanying visual materials, as well as dissemination.
All comments that suggest a change in the content of the text should be properly / scientifically referenced. Please read the review modalities carefully.
All comments will be discussed by the Editorial Board (EB) and they may or may not result in changes. The IO will not personally notify individuals of the outcome of the deliberations, but may contact survey participants by email for clarification.
Participation in the survey is not anonymous, and comments and suggestions will be available upon request. The results of the survey will be used only for the intended use – a review of the draft 6th edition of the WHO laboratory manual for testing and processing human semen.
