UK Health Minister positive for coronavirus

UK Health Minister Nadine Dorries said Tuesday she had tested positive for the coronavirus.

The conservative politician and the first MP to contract the virus said she self-isolated and took "all the recommended precautions" when she learned of her diagnosis.

A total of 382 people were diagnosed with the virus in the UK and six died.

"Public health in England has started a detailed search for contacts and the department and my parliamentary office are following their advice closely," Dorries said in a statement released through the country's health department.

The Times reported that Dorries had met hundreds of people in Parliament over the past week and attended a reception with Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

With the increase in the number of coronavirus cases in the UK, the National Health Service (NHS) England has declared that it will increase the capacity for screening for the virus, which means that 10,000 tests a day could be performed. Currently, the capacity allows only 1,500 tests per day.
